Background
When ÖJBRO VANTFABRIK started manufacturing mittens, we chose wool for mittens. Wool has fantastic properties, for example, the wool warms even in humid conditions. We chose 100% Merino wool, the finest-haired and thus the warmest quality, that we could lay our hands on for the manufacture of mittens. We found an environmentally conscious supplier in Italy.


The wife and designer of our patterned mittens, Åse Öjbro, has a peculiar condition that makes her feeling cold especially on her fingers. It is called "Raynaud's Syndrome". So she still was freezing in her new mittens, though they were mittens (much warmer than gloves with individual fingers), they were made entirely of wool (the warmest material) and had the best quality (100% merino wool)

To make our mittens even warmer, we started experimenting with different linings, but nothing helped, they all had their advantages or disadvantages. That’s when we came up with the idea of increasing the number of linings, we came up with a "lamination" of 3 different lining materials.

The 4-layer mitten consists of a merino wool outer mitten and three inner linings, giving four layers.

Each layer has its function and provides optimal warmth by trapping air between the layers, creating an insulating effect.

The trapped air warms the mitten and makes it both wind-resistant while allowing the hand to breathe.

The patterns on the mittens are mainly designed to be aesthetic, but they are also knitted with wool threads, which means that the more detailed patterns provide extra warmth compared to the simpler variants.
